Southwest Kansans have a variety of activities to check out this weekend, including a benefit poker run, farmer's market, Stevens Park Concert Series and a new exhibit, "Digging Through Time," at the Finney County Historical Museum.

On Saturday morning, people have the option of taking in the Garden City Farmer's Market, which features a variety of homegrown produce, home-crafted items and homemade foods. The market runs 7 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Sept. 26 in the parking lot of Westlake Hardware at the corner of Fleming Street and Harding Avenue.

Also on Saturday, a benefit poker run is being held to benefit Finney County resident Deb "Indian" Weber's mother, who is battling cancer. Cost is $20 for the first rider and $10 for a second or additional rider, with an extra poker hand costing $10.

Anyone interested may register at Remington's, 1604 Buffalo Jones Ave., from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The ride will go through western Kansas and end at the Thirsty Dawg, 301 E. Jones. Prize money will be awarded for high and low hands, as well as door prizes. Lunch is provided.

For more information, contact Weber at 521-1257.

Other weekend events include the Finney County Historical Museum, 403 S. Fourth St., opening a new exhibit called "Digging Through Time."

The exhibit features a time capsule that was unearthed in December 2008. The capsule contains about 2,000 photographs from 1958 to 1984, predictions of students and items unique to the time periods.

The capsule originally was buried in 1958 and dug up and opened in 1983. More artifacts were added and the capsule was reburied in 1984.

The exhibit is open until the end of the year. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
