The Kansas Department of Transportation expects a resurfacing project on U.S. Highway 50 in Kearny County to begin by Monday.

The project runs from the east city limits of Lakin to the Kearny/Finney county line. During construction, traffic will be limited to one lane through the work zone, guided by a pilot car. Drivers can expect delays of 15 minutes or less. KDOT urges drivers to be alert, pay attention to all work zone warning signs, slow down when approaching a work zone and be prepared to stop. KDOT expects to complete the project by the end of May, depending on weather.

APAC-Kansas, Shears Division, of Hutchinson, is the primary contractor for the project, and another resurfacing project on Kansas Highway 25 in Kearny and Wichita counties, which have a combined contract cost of approximately $4.8 million. The work on K-25 will begin once the work is completed on U.S. Highway 50.
