A Lakin man was taken to the hospital for possible injuries following an accident with a semi-tractor Monday night on U.S. Highway 50. The accident occurred just east of the Kansas Highway 25/U.S. 50 junction in Lakin.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at about 8:59 p.m. Zackary Aguilar, 20, Lakin, was westbound in a 1995 Honda passenger car on U.S. 50. when a car stopped to make a left turn in front of him. Aguilar then changed lanes and collided with a 2012 Kenworth semi-tractor driven by Bryan Shafer, 31, Garden City. Aguilar's vehicle came to rest in the roadway facing southwest, and Shafer's vehicle came to rest in the roadway facing west. Both Aguilar and his passenger Mason Manion, 19, Creswell, Ore., were reported to not have been wearing seat belts.
Aguilar was taken to Kearny County Hospital following the accident. He was listed in fair condition by hospital officials.
Shafer and Manion were not injured.
