Time to round up some cowboy poetry

The Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest for 2014 will have qualifying rounds at new sites around the state and will culminate with the finals on June 13 in Alma.

The Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest for 2014 will have qualifying rounds at new sites around the state and will culminate with the finals on June 13 in Alma.

Qualifying contests will be held at 2 p.m. May 18 in Old Cowtown, Wichita; 5 p.m. May 30, Carnegie Center for the Arts, Dodge City; and 4 p.m. June 7, Flint Hills Rodeo Grounds, Strong City.

Poets must finish in the top three at one of these contests to qualify for the state finals. There are two divisions: serious and humorous poetry. Contestants must present original work.

The final round of the contest will take place at 7 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Memorial Hall, 218 Kansas in Alma, The event is free. The public is invited.
