Garden City junior boys golfers Logan Durst and Daniel Gaspar had ties for third and a fifth place finish in the 12 to 13 year-old division on Wednesday to help pace the West Section to a runner-up team finish in the 2012 Kansas Junior Golf Association Junior Section Championship played at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

Taylor Larsen, also of Garden City, had a seventh-place finish in the 14 to 15 year-old division.

In the 36-hole, two-day event, Durst had rounds of 87-74--161 while Gaspar had rounds of 83-80--163. Larsen, after an opening 83, came back with a 74 to equal the low round of the day in his age group, to finish at 157. Ulysses' Brandon Peters had rounds of 89-86--175 in the 12 to 13-year-old division while Cimarron's Matthew Mowry tied for 13th in the 11 and under division with a 27-hole total of 103.

The Metro Kansas City area section team claimed the overall title with a total of 1,695 while the West was a distant second at 1,772, just one shot ahead of third-place North Central's 1,773. South Central (1,783), Northeast (1,786) and Southeast (1,853) rounded out the section team scores. The team scores are compiled using the two lowest scores in the four age group each day of the tournament.
