SATANTA — John A. Frey, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at the Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.

SATANTA — John A. Frey, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at the Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.

He was born April 14, 1933, in Garden City to John Hubert and Roberta Helsel Frey.

He was a lifetime Haskell County resident. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1951. He was a farmer and stockman.

He married Carolyn Ann Kent on May 15, 1952, in Garden City. She survives.

Frey was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War.

He enjoyed livestock shows, was a 4-H leader who enjoyed helping kids with 4-H projects and was known as "4-H Grandpa Frey" and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the Pleasant Prairie Church of God.

Other survivors include two sons, George Frey of Garden City, and Justin and wife Lori Frey of Satanta; three daughters, KaAnn Graham of Hutchinson, Shawn and husband Harmon Plunkett of Syracuse, and Karan and husband Randy Long of Garden City; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Harlan, and wife Samantha Comer of Overbrook; and a grand-niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather, Harlan Kinton; a son, John "Sam" Frey; and a sister, Gail Comer.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the Pleasant Prairie Church of God in rural Haskell County. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
