Jennings gets

new assignment

State Rep. Russ Jennings of Lakin has been assigned to the Corrections and Juvenile Justice committee for the 2014 legislative session. He will no longer serve on the Elections and Local Government committee.

"I am honored and pleased to serve in the Kansas House of Representatives," Jennings said. "My new committee assignment fits very well with my prior public service career of over 30 years. I look forward to the work of the upcoming session."

The regular session of the Kansas Legislature begins at 2 p.m. Monday, and is expected to last for 90 days.

Jennings previously served as a law enforcement officer, District Magistrate Judge, director of the Southwest Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center and Commissioner of the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority.

Nominees sought

for GCHS Hall of Fame

The Garden City High School Hall of Fame Committee is now accepting nominations for 2014 Hall of Fame inductees.

Nominees must be graduates of Garden City High School. Other qualifications to be considered include professional accomplishments, community service and the capacity to be a positive role model for the 2014 graduating class.

Nominations submitted in 2012 and 2013 will be considered along with this year's nominees. Nominations from years prior to 2012 should be resubmitted.

Two inductees will be selected for the 2014 GCHS Hall of Fame. One inductee is chosen from those residing within Finney County and one from outside.

Nomination forms are available in the main office of Garden City High School, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.; the Educational Support Center of Garden City Public Schools, 1205 Fleming St.; the Finney County Public Library, 605 E. Walnut St.; and the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. For a faxed copy of the nomination form, call (620) 805-7000 (Educational Support Center) or (620) 805-5400 (GCHS). The form is also available at the Garden City Public Schools website located at www.gckschools.com under the Online Services section.

Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming St.

The GCHS Hall of Fame is to honor past graduates of Garden City High School for their accomplishments in their chosen professions. It also presents positive role models to the graduating seniors, as well as to the rest of the student body.

Eagles dinner

Thursday

A stag/stagette dinner open to the public will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Eagles Lodge, U.S. Highway 83 and Mary Street.

The menu will feature ham, roast beef, potatoes, cole slaw, beans and more.
