LAKIN — Dorothy Mae Jenks, 81, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.
Mrs. Jenks was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Ellis County, to Preston and Helen (Grusing) Kysar. On Feb. 12, 1949, she married Glen L. Jenks in Lydia. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2009.
She was a member of the United Method Church in Lakin, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Budget Shop Board of Directors. She was also a past member of the Lakin City Council and past president of the Kansas Authors Club.
Mrs. Jenks was a tax-preparer and published poet.
Survivors include three daughters, Elaine Beaver of Lakin, Kathy and husband Steve Diorio of Cañon City, Colo., and Karen and husband Denton Berry of Scott City; one brother, Kenneth Kysar of Lakin; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law, Ron Beaver; and two sisters, Marge Eskelund and Florence Boyd.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Lakin. Burial will follow at Lakin Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Condolences may be emailed to garnandfh@sbcglobal.net.
