Ensign Brenner T. Schap of the U.S. Navy received his wings of gold as a naval aviator on April 11 at the NAS, Corpus Christi, Texas.

After graduating from Holcomb High School in 2003, Schap joined the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Air Traffic Control School in 2005 and soon developed an interest in flying. In 2009, he was accepted into the U.S. Navy's STA21 program, through which he graduated from KU with a degree in business and was commissioned a naval officer in 2012.

Schap completed primary flight training at Whiting Air Force Base in Pensacola, Fla., and recently finished his advanced pilot instruction at NAS, Corpus Christi. The U.S. Navy has assigned him to an E-6B squadron stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.

Schap and his wife Jaymi, from Garden City, have three children, Ethan, 8, Alexis, 4, and Eli, 2. His parents are Mike and Shelly Schap and Pat and Les Brown.
