The scheduled Class 3A sub-state basketball games for the Holcomb Longhorns girls and boys teams against Chaparral for Monday night have been postponed to Tuesday due to dangerous road conditions in south central Kansas, where the Roadrunners are at home in Anthony-Harper.
The games will now be played at 5:30 p.m. and approximately 7:15 p.m. for the girls and boys at Holcomb High School gym.
Cimarron is the host site for the Class 3A sub-state involving area schools.
Also postponed from Monday to Tuesday is the Lakin at Cheney boys first-round game. That game has been rescheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start Tuesday at Cheney. The Lakin Lady Broncs also will play Tuesday, a 6 p.m. scheduled tipoff at Garden Plain.
In addition to the Garden Plain at Cimarron boys game tonight being played, Southwestern Heights' boys will travel to Kingman for a 6:30 p.m. game, too.
Class 1A-Div. I sub-state at Jetmore, and Class 1A-Div. II tournaments at Rolla and Tribune were all still on as originally scheduled, according to officials at all sites. Class 2A sub-state games from the Syracuse site, involving four games were also still scheduled, according to Syracuse High School Athletic Director Marty Lehman.
Class 4A-Div. I and II sub-states at Goodland and McPherson, involving Ulysses (Div. I) and Hugoton and Scott City (Div. II), will begin on Thursday.
Class 6A sub-state semifinals for Garden City's girls and boys will take place on Wednesday at 5 and 6:45 p.m. at The Garden as the Buffs' teams host both Wichita Northwest teams. A win by the Buffs' boys would assure them of a home floor advantage for the sub-state championship on Saturday against the winner of Thursday's Wichita North-Wichita South game. That championship game would be played at 7 p.m. at The Garden.
A win by the Lady Buffs would most likely send them to No. 2-seeded Maize if Maize's girls win their semifinal game against No. 7 Haysville-Campus on Wednesday. That championship game would be played on Friday at 7 p.m. If Campus were to upset Maize, and the Lady Buffs win their game, they would get the home floor for the championship game.
