HPL: Meade, Southwest Heights boys advance

Meade 63, Syracuse 56

At Sublette, Morgan Davis and Jett Little combined for 47 points to carry the Meade Buffaloes to a victory over the Syracuse Bulldogs, 63-56, in the quarterfinals of the Hi-Plains League Tournament.

Davis had a game-high 25 points and Little added 22 for the top-seeded Buffaloes.

By the end of the first quarter, the Buffaloes were up by 10 points, 17-7. By the half, that score had been evened out as the Bulldogs put up 18 points to the Buffaloes' 7, leaving the score at halftime 25-24 in favor of the Bulldogs. The game remained close as the third quarter ended with the Buffaloes up by two at 43-41. The Buffaloes pulled ahead by scoring 20 points to the Bulldogs' 15 in the fourth quarter.

The No. 1 Buffaloes will continue on to play the fourth-seeded SW Heights Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the GCCC West Gym. No. 8 Syracuse drops into the consolation bracket to take on the fifth-seeded Elkhart Wildcats Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the GCCC West Gym.

SW Heights 71, Elkhart 62

Cody Jennings scored 18 points to lead the Southwestern Heights Mustangs to a 71-62 victory over the Elkhart Wildcats.

Elkhart had the early lead, going up 16-10 after one quarter and 32-29 at halftime. But Heights came back strong in the final half, outscoring the Wildcats 42-30 to claim the quarterfinal victory.

Heights will play the No. 1-seeded Meade Buffaloes Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the GCCC West Gym. Elkhart will play the eighth-seeded Syracuse Bulldogs Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the GCCC West Gym.

Syracuse 42, Stanton Co. 38

Delaney Pollart scored 14 points to help the Syracuse Lady Bulldogs win an overtime nail-biter against the Stanton County Lady Trojans, 42-38.

The scores were close as the Lady Bulldogs were tied 6-6 with the Lady Trojans at the end of the first quarter, and only one point ahead of them at halftime. Being one down at the end of the third quarter, the Lady Trojans rallied and managed to tie up the game. In overtime, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Trojans 9-5.

Syracuse will move on to play the second-seeded Meade Lady Buffaloes Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the GCCC West Gym. Stanton Co. will enter the consolation bracket to play No. 7 Satanta Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the GCCC East Gym.

Cimarron 71, Lakin 42

Ashtynn Burns scored 22 points to lead the Cimarron Lady Bluejays to a big quarterfinal win over the Lakin Lady Broncs, 71-42.

After starting off by scoring 21 points in the first quarter and finishing with 23 in the second, the Lady Bluejays were winning 44-18 by the half. The Lady Bluejays coasted through the second half allowing the Lady Broncs to score 18 points in the fourth quarter.

The No. 1-seeded Lady Bluejays will move on to play against the fifth-seeded Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the GCCC West Gym. The No. 8 ranked Lady Broncs will enter the consolation bracket to play against the fourth-seeded Elkhart Lady Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the GCCC West Gym.

Meade 70, Satanta 30

At Sublette, Jaylin Stapleton scored 19 points to lead the Meade Lady Bufflaoes to a solid victory over the Satanta Lady Indians, 70-30.

The Lady Buffaloes opened impressively, scoring 20 points in the first quarter. Their offense lulled in the second and scored 12 points, but held the Lady Indians to just three.

The Lady Buffaloes picked up the pace again in the third and fourth by scoring 21 and 17 points, respectively.

The No. 2-seeded Lady Buffaloes will continue on to play against the third-seeded Syracuse Lady Bulldogs. They will play Thursday at 6 p.m. in the GCCC West Gym. The No. 7 Lady Indians will descend to the consolation bracket to play the sixth-seeded Stanton Co. at 6 p.m. Thursday in the GCCC East Gym.

SW Heights 51, Elkhart 23

Nayelly LaPoint scored 16 points to help the Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs defeat the Elkhart Lady Wildcats, 51-23.

The Lady Wildcats' offense was lacking as they scored two points in the first quarter and five in the second and third periods. The score at halftime was 19-7 in the favor of the Lady Mustangs. Going into the second half, the Lady Wildcats continued on pace and scored 16 points, while the Lady Mustangs scored 32 points in the second half.

The Lady Mustangs will go on to play the top-seeded Cimarron Lady Bluejays Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the GCCC West Gym. The No. 4 Lady Wildcats will play eighth-seeded Lakin Thursday at 3 p.m. in the GCCC West Gym.
