Hamilton Co. attorney won't charge officers

The Hamilton County Attorney's Office has decided not to pursue charges against law enforcement officials, following the completion of a Kansas Bureau of Investigation probe into allegations of abuse at the county jail.

County Attorney Rob Gale said there was no basis for criminal prosecution based on the KBI's findings.

The investigation was called for by the attorney and Hamilton County law enforcement officials on Nov. 24 after Syracuse resident Chris Barr said an arresting officer hit him while he was handcuffed and intoxicated, dislocating his thumb and bending a nearby bench inside the Hamilton County Jail on the night of Nov. 17. Barr said he sustained neck, back and shoulder pain from the incident.

Barr was arrested on allegations of obstruction of justice and battery on a law enforcement officer for evading arrest the night of Nov. 17.

He also was accused of criminal damage to property for breaking a bench during the confrontation between him and Undersheriff Neil Talbot inside the Hamilton County Jail, when Barr alleges the undersheriff used excessive force on him.

Gale said the charges against Barr also have been dismissed.

The three law enforcement officials under investigation included Talbot, Deputy Johnathan Smith and Deputy Nikolas Krug, Gale said.

Hamilton County Sheriff Richard Garza said he had not yet seen the KBI's report but concurred with the county attorney's judgement.

Not a shocker!

These cops are so corrupt its not funny if they aren't then Rob Gale is! Why was charges dropped against Chris Barr if nothing happened on the cops side?

Why Am I Not Surprised?

Syracuse law enforcement is really corrupted, someone should really investigate these people. I have heard so many stories, and had family affected.
