CIMARRON -- A former Gray County employee has pleaded guilty to four counts of theft from the county.

Thomas Hogan, former Gray County Public Works administrator, was sentenced Jan. 22 to a year of probation. He was ordered to pay Gray County $25,000 of restitution.

He pleaded guilty in Gray County District Court to theft stemming from four different time periods, admitting to using the county's credit card for personal goods and services, according to court records.

According to court documents, he pleaded guilty to using the county credit card for nearly $6,500 worth of goods and services in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Florida and the Kansas City, Kan., area.

According to court documents:

From February to April 2008, Hogan pleaded guilty to using the card for different hotels, restaurants and gas stations in Texas and Oklahoma.

On the second count of theft, from June 6 to 13, 2008, Hogan pleaded guilty to using the card at restaurants and at the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, Kan.

On the third count, from July 24 to 31, 2008, Hogan pleaded guilty to using the card in Oklahoma to charge $851 for goods and services at Claim Your Power, a motivational seminar in Melrose, Fla. Other charges on the card included hotels and restaurants in Wichita.

In the fourth count, Hogan pleaded guilty to using the card in various places near the Boulder and Denver area in Colorado, and in Overland Park and Manhattan. The charges were at hotels, restaurants and gas stations.

In March 2009, Hogan was suspended with pay from the county and later resigned his position.

The Cimarron City Council agreed to hire Hogan for a part-time recycling compost position, City Clerk Trudee Little said, but she said Hogan later resigned that position.

Hogan had worked for Gray county since 1982 and served as Public Works administrator, rural fire coordinator, emergency preparedness director and head of zoning and planning.

Are you serious?

How did it take two years to catch on to what this guy was doing? Wouldn't these expenses have to be approved on a monthly basis when the bill was paid?

They're just reporting the news

What's there to get? Are up upset because they are reporting on Cimarron news? I do believer there was a write up on both the string of robberies & the police officer that had to shoot a man. It's called a NEWSPAPER for a reason. Not sure why your so bothered by this!!! What's it matter that they are reporting news that is close to home? SERIOUSLY!
