The Garden City High School boys basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 48-41 victory over host Valley Center to claim seventh place at the January Jam tournament.

Saturday's victory enabled the Buffs to improve their record to 5-8 and they will resume play with a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday when they host Ulysses at The Garden.

The Buffaloes led 13-8 after one quarter and led the Hornets 18-14 at halftime. Both teams found their shooting touch in the third quarter with Garden City finishing ahead 34-31. With less than 30 seconds to play, Valley Center cut a 10-point deficit to two, 43-41, but the Buffs hit 5-of-8 free throws down the stretch to ice the game.

Jake Curran and Braden Taylor scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Buffs.
