Tae Kwan Do class to start

The Garden City Recreation Commission will be conducting Tae Kwon Do classes over a period of six weeks, starting on Jan. 8, 2013.

Richard Burnett will serve as the instructor for the class, which will be taught at Charles Stones Intermediate Center, 401 Jennie Barker Road.

Registration fee for the class is $35. The class is open to persons of all ages. The program offers practical and effective self-defense training, regardless of skill level or experience.

Adult coed volleyball set

The Garden City Recreation Commission will start its 2013 coed volleyball season on Jan. 16.

The league fee is $150 per team with a registration deadline of Jan. 14. There will be a preseason tournament beginning on Jan. 16. A 10-game season will be included along with the double-elimination tournament which is used for placing teams into divisions.

Information packets are available at the GCRC office, 310 North 6th Street.

Men's basketball seeks team

The Garden City Recreation Commission is seeking at least one more team for its 2013 men's 35 and over basketball league season.

The league is a 4-on-4 format and are played on the GCRC short courts. Teams will have a six-game schedule with games starting Jan. 13.

YMCA briefs

YMCA sets league sign-ups

The Garden City Family YMCA will be holding its youth basketball leagues starting in January.

Registration is now open and will conclude on Jan. 8. Fees are $15 for free/reduced lunch scholarship; $21 for members and $42 for program participants.

If space is available after the registration deadline, there will be a $10 extended registration fee.

Games will be played on Saturday's starting Jan. 26.

The YMCA will also be conducting its 5 vs. 5 basketball league, starting Jan. 20. Registration deadline is Jan. 8 and the fee is $175 per team. Player fees are an additional $15 for members and $30 for program participants. All games will be played on Sunday afternoons and evenings.

In addition, the YMCA will be hosting a men's indoor soccer league, starting Jan. 20.

All games will be played on Sunday mornings and early afternoons. The team registration fee is $150 and there is $15 member individual fee or $30 for a program participant.
