A Garden City High School teacher was arrested Sept. 18 on allegations that she refused to submit to a test for drugs or alcohol and driving under the influence.

Heather Dawn Kneeland, 41, 2122 Tara Drive, was arrested by Finney County Sheriff's officers at 6:18 p.m. Sept. 18 on Kansas Highway 156 in rural Finney County. She is an English as a Second Language teacher and assistant tennis coach at GCHS.

Roy Cessna, public information coordinator for USD 457, said Kneeland is on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation, but he declined to comment further.

"It's a personnel issue, and the district cannot comment on this," Cessna said.

Kneeland could not be reached for comment.
