GUYMON, Okla. — On a night when not one Garden City High School boys player scored in double figures, there were just a bunch of Buffaloes who flew around, created havoc and played intense defense.

The result was a 46-30 thumping of Guymon's Tigers on Friday night.

It was the fourth-straight win and fifth in six games for the Buffs, who now possess a 10-5 season record. They get a week off until heading to Great Bend on Friday when they return to Western Athletic Conference action. That will be followed with the Feb. 15 make-up date game at Holcomb.

"The defense has always been solid, and we wanted to create some turnovers, fly around, trap them like we've done lately," said GCHS coach Jacy Holloway.

The Buffs didn't ice the game away until the final five minutes, when they extended a 38-30 lead into the final 16-point triumph.

No Buff scored in double figures, but nine players did find the bucket at least once.

The leader of the balanced attack was senior Hunter Delgado, who was playing just two days after signing a football letter-of-intent to attend Hutchinson Community College.

"Just trying to have fun, do the things that we've done ever since we were kids," Delgado said after scoring a team-high nine points and hauling in a game-high eight rebounds. "Just putting everything behind me and not worry about things."

The Buffs led 12-7 after the opening quarter, extended it to 24-17 at halftime and was up by 12, 38-26, after three quarters. The closest Guymon could get was five points early in the third period at 26-21.

Caleb Tramp and Mitchell Hernandez had eight points each, with Hernandez dropping in a pair of 3-pointers, while Tramp scored six points in the final five minutes.

"We had to play a bunch of players because we got tired," Holloway said. "I think the layoff, the weird schedule with the weather and all this week just caused us not to be as focused as we need to be."

All in all, however, Holloway was satisfied to get out of Oklahoma with a win, something that is always hard to do.

"Anytime we can come down here and win, I'll be happy," Holloway said.

Guymon got a game-high 11 points from Angel Vega, but the Buffs did hold the Tigers' leading scorer, Derrick Portillo, without a point, keeping him to 0 for 11 from the field.
