Gregory Dale, Director of Sports Psychology and Leadership Programs for Duke University in Durham, N.C., will be the featured speaker at a number of workshops for Garden City High School coaches, parents and student-athletes on August 6-7.
Dale is a professor of sports psychology and sports ethics at the Atlantic Coast Conference school and has worked with Blue Devils coaches such as Mike Kryzewski and others on the North Carolina school's campus.
The workshops will be conducted in the GCHS Courtyard. A student-athlete workshop entitled "Maximizing your Potential: A model for Performance Excellence," is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. on August 6. This workshop includes developing leadership skills and character, preparing for success, embracing pressure, trusting your instincts, effective goal-setting, and perseverance in difficult situations.
For parents of GCHS student-athletes, "Raising a Champion in Sports and Life" will be held that same night from 6 to 7 p.m. This thought-provoking workshop encourages parents to analyze the type of environment they are creating for their children. Parents will leave with specific strategies they can use to be more effective parents of student-athletes.
On August 7, "Developing the Credible Coach: A Model for Success," workshop will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon. This workshop emphasizes the importance of coaches earning credibility with athletes as well as the dynamics of group development and productivity. Particular emphasis is placed on effective communication and motivation tactics.
In addition to his work with Duke athletes and coaches, Dale consults with numerous college and professional athletes and teams. He also consults with corporations around the world, including The World Bank, The United Nations, Airports Council International, Habitat for Humanity International, Pfizer and SKANSKA International. Dale has written four books related to leadership and performance. In addition, he has written scripts and served as the "expert" on a series of 13 videos for coaches, athletes, and parents. He has been featured on Good Morning America, ESPN, MSNBC, Court TV and numerous national radio programs.
