The Garden City High School softball team got stellar pitching from freshman Abbie Dart and junior Dusti Befort, and added a power-packed offensive explosion en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Colby Lady Eagles on Friday, 9-0 and 16-0.

Dart pitched her second no-hitter of the season in the nightcap while Befort limited Colby to just one hit over seven innings in the opener.

"I thought we played pretty well, and we hit a lot better than we had prior to today," said GCHS coach Trina Moquett.

The twin victories improved the Lady Buffs season record to 7-2 and they are 2-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. Next up will be a critical road doubleheader on Thursday against Great Bend as the Lady Panthers are the other main challenger for the WAC title.

In Friday's first victory, Befort doubled, homered and drove in five runs to spark the victory. Befort also struck out 12 Lady Eagles.

The second game was a Dart special as the freshman hurler recorded three strikeouts while walking three. She also had a big game at the plate, driviing in four runs, including a double. But the big offensive spark came from Shea Nordby, who doubled, homered and drove in seven runs. Jamie St. Clair and Kennedy Brunson each had a pair of RBIs and Haley Saldana tripled. In all, the Lady Buffs amassed 25 hits in the twin bill plastering, 12 of which went for extra bases.

Moquett said she was pleased with the way the team played, but also said things can still be sharper, despite the fact they committed just one error in the two games.

"We played pretty well as a team and got the job done," Moquett said. "Being so young, you're trying to implement things and trying to keep them focused on what it takes to be successful. Sometimes, you just don't know what you're gonna get that day."

And Moquett knows the importance of the trip to Great Bend to play the Lady Panthers.

"It's the one you point to, and we know we'll be in for a tough matchup, but I like where we are,"
