Tyler Alitz hit two home runs, the Broncbusters piled up 20 hits and the Garden City Community College baseball team picked up an 11-7 non-conference road win over Clarendon College (Texas) on Wednesday.

Garden City (12-13) took the lead for good in the sixth on a solo homer by catcher Jaxon Mohr. After Clarendon pulled to within 8-7 in the seventh, the Busters got singles from Alex Buechler and Kevin Czarnecki before Alitz homered for the second straight inning to make it the final 11-7 margin.

It was the fourth time in the last six games the Busters scored 11 or more runs, and Garden City is 5-0 this season when scoring 10 or more in a game.

The pitching wasn't as crisp as it was in Tuesday's 4-3 12-inning loss to No. 5 Lamar, but Bradley Spires and Garrett Bryant pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to preserve the win. Chris Bonk started the game, going four innings and allowing four runs, all earned, on 11 hits and two walks with two walks while striking out six. Tyler Clapper got the win, pitching three innings and allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits and a walk.

Garden City tagged all four Clarendon pitchers for at least a run. Starter Cody Upton went three innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on nine hits and a walk. Anthony Delarosa pitched three innings, allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Bryan Toro was charged with two runs, and Connor Rutz was charged with one after giving up the three-run homer to Alitz in the eighth.

Alitz was 2-for-5, both his hits coming on home runs, including a solo shot in the seventh. Buechler was 5-for-6 with two runs and an RBI, and eight Busters tallied at least two hits, with Nick Ragias the lone GCCC player to register just one hit.

Garden City went up 2-0 in the first, with Buechler and Nolan Barrientos both picking up two-out RBI singles. The Busters added three in the third, and Mohr drove in the eventual winning run with an RBI single in the seventh.

Clarendon had tied the game at 2 and at 5, and pulled within one in the bottom of the seventh on Marcus Brown's two-run single. Alitz added insurance runs in the next half-inning for Garden City on his third homer of the season.

Garden City next hosts Seward County in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday at Williams Stadium. The third and fourth games of the four-game series may be played anywhere from Saturday to Tuesday, depending on the weather.
