Garden City Community College announced the hiring of Matt Christian as the head men's and women's golf coach today at 2 p.m. at a press conference in the Hall of Fame room.

Christian, a three-year professional golfer, will head the building of a brand new women's program, which will begin its first year at GCCC in the fall. He will also be the successor of current men's golf coach Phil Terpstra.

Christian owns and operates Elite Golf Performance, a "golf training facility dedicated to the highest level of total golf performance..." since 1993, according to Christian's résumé. Through Elite Golf Performance, Christian states that over 115 prep alumni of the training facility earned scholarships.

Christian has not coached a collegiate team previously.

The full story will be in Friday's issue of The Telegram.
