The Garden City Community College softball team continued its recent skid with a pair of losses at KJCCC Division II opponent Dodge City on Tuesday.

The Lady Busters were swept, 5-1 and 9-1, by the Lady Conquistadors, extending the Busters' losing streak to seven games, dating back to April 16. The Busters also have lost nine of their last 11.

"It's probably the worst feeling in the world," head coach Becky Gundy said in a telephone interview after the losses about the Busters' seeming inability to break out of the slump, despite making several changes in her lineup.

And it makes it even worse when Gundy said many of the players no longer have the drive to win.

"There's a lot of things we can teach, but we can't teach heart, and that's what we're lacking," she said.

The Busters smacked 11 hits in the opener, but were only able to score one run on Jalen Espinoza's triple that scored Sidney Coleman in the third inning. Espinoza went 3 for 4 to lead the Busters, with both of the Busters' extra-base hits, also hitting a double in the fifth..

Emilie Laliberte was 2 for 4, while Coleman was 2 for 3.

Rachel Roe pitched a complete game, giving up five runs, four earned, on 10 hits and recorded two strikeouts.

Kaitlyn Amaral had the lone Conqs' extra-base hit, a three-run home run in the third. Jordan Mecham picked up the complete game win, striking out two and walking one.

In the nightcap, Alex Barleen tossed just one inning, giving up one hit and no runs. Miranda Elliott threw three innings of the run-rule-shortened five inning game, giving up all nine runs — five earned — on seven hits and five walks.

Liberty Nelson had the one hit for the Busters, a home run to center field to lead off the third.

Dodge City's Ashley Stephenson had the only extra-base hit for the Conqs, a double in the Conqs' four-run fourth. Lauren Kelley got the complete game win, striking out one, walking one.

"To me, the biggest thing is, our kids have to decide, we've been knocked down — are we going to get up?" Gundy said. "If losing doesn't hurt, winning doesn't matter."

The Busters close out their regular season on Friday and Saturday with a pair of doubleheaders at North Platte, Neb., and Western, Neb, respectively.

Friday's games begin at 3 p.m.
