Lady Busters drop two, win one in Fort Worth




The Garden City Community College Lady Broncbusters opened the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas, Friday with the first three games of five scheduled for the two-day tournament.

The Lady Busters dropped the first two (10-2 to Seminole State; 16-14 to Western Oklahoma), but rebounded for a 19-15 win over Ranger College in the nightcap.

The Lady Busters finish out the Classic today with a 9 a.m. contest with North Central College, followed by Northern Oklahoma at 11 a.m.

Head coach Becky Gundy's squad does not return home to host a game until Feb. 28, when they take on Clarendon College in a doubleheader. On Feb. 25, though, the Lady Busters return to Texas for twin billing with Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas.

Seminole State 10, Garden City 2

The Lady Busters crossed the plate first with two runs in the top of the second, but the Trojans answered with an eight-run bottom of the inning for the commanding lead.

The Trojans added one more in the third and another in the sixth for the final margin of victory.

Rachel Roe was charged with the loss, allowing eight earned, while striking out four.

Sidney Coleman had the only two RBIs for the Busters on 1 of 2 at the plate with a double.

Western Okla. 16, Garden City 14

The Lady Busters held an 8-2 lead through four innings, and a 10-5 advantage through five, but a 10-run sixth for the Lady Pioneers sent Western to the 16-14 win.

Jessica Soliday took the loss for the Lady Busters, throwing 6.1 innings before being relieved.

Emilie Laliberte had four RBIs for the Busters.

Garden City 19, Ranger College 15

Despite falling behind 7-1 through two innings, the Lady Busters used five-run innings in the third, fourth and sixth to get the 19-15 win in the slugfest.

Chassidy Cerrato led the way with four RBIs on 3-of-5 hitting, including a double and a triple.

Brooke Lovas also had a triple for the Lady Busters, driving in three on 2 for 5 at the plate. Mattie Miller was 4 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored.

Danielle Aronoff also had a pair of RBIs on 1 for 4, yet she scored three runs.

The Busters cobbled together seven innings of pitching between Alex Barleen (2 IP, 2 ER), Rachel Roe (2 IP, 4 ER) and Jessica Soliday (3 IP, 1 ER).
