'Progressing' Lady Busters fall to KCK, 3-0
By J. LEVI BURNFIN
The progress is clear for interim coach Hector Martinez of the Garden City Community College women's soccer team.
They haven't won a game — outside of a forfeit — this season, yet he knows his team is getting better. The Lady Busters still fell 3-0 to Kansas City, Kan., on Tuesday night in Kansas City, but the teams were at a scoreless tie at halftime.
It wasn't until the 55th minute in the game that either team scored as Kansas City's Blanca Bueno headed in a goal on a corner kick.
"I think we controlled the game in the first three quarters of the game," freshman defender Kyra Bussen said. "But once that one goal went in from the corner kick, it shook us up."
The Lady Blue Devils (2-6, 2-7) scored two more in the next fifteen minutes to pull away for the victory.
Daniah Gomez put one in from short range in the 60th minute and Alyssa Trammel scored a lucky goal from distance, just getting past the outstretched arms of the Lady Busters' (1-7, 1-8) new goaltender Madison Silva.
Silva still finished the day with 18 saves and the Lady Busters were shot for shot with the Lady Blue Devils, putting 18 shots on goal compared to 21 for Kansas City.
"We're getting closer and closer," Martinez said after the loss.
The Lady Busters have a quick turnaround for their next match, staying in Kansas City last night to take on nearby Johnson County (6-1, 9-2) today.
