GCCC men's golf fifth at Jayhawk tourney

The Garden City Community College golf team took fifth place out of 10 teams at the fifth and final KJCCC regular season tournament at Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Milford.

Team scores were unavailable at time of press, but Matt LeGrange led the Busters with a 78-72—150, while Alex Piper was just behind at 76-76—152, according to head coach Matt Christian, who did not travel with the team for team reasons, Christian said in a text message.

Rounding out the five golfers were Nathan Forrest’s 78-76—154, Boone Wells’ 80-77—157 and Nick Mann’s 76-82—158.

“They played below average relative to their previous scores (at KJCCC events), but are showing progression each week,” Christian said in a text. “We will be ready and looking forward to our conference tournament.”

The KJCCC Men’s Championship tournament is on April 21 and 22 in Newton at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

The Busters will likely enter the tournament as the sixth-ranked team in the Jayhawk after finishing sixth, tied for fourth, seventh, sixth and fifth in KJCCC events.
