GCCC golf improves to sixth in KJCCC



The Garden City Community College golf team improved on day two of the KJCCC Men's Championship, shooting a team score of 314 to finish sixth out of nine teams.

The Busters had shot 324 and 319 in the first two rounds on Monday, but improved by five shots on Tuesday at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton.

Dodge City continued its hot start on Monday with a 302 on Tuesday to take top team honors with a three-round score of 904.

The best individual improvement for the Busters came from Nathan Forrest, who shot a 77 on Tuesday, down from 80 and 85 on Monday, finishing with an overall 242 for a tie for 32nd place with teammate Boone Wells. Wells was consistent with a 79-82-81 tournament score.

Matthew LeGrange was the top Busters' performer with an 80-74-77--231, tying for 12th.

Hutchinson's Jordan Hecker took the individual first place with a five-over-par 76-74-71--221.

Garden City head coach Matt Christian declined to comment.
