Busters conquer No. 11 Conquistadors
By J. Levi Burnfin
Dodge City — Showing flashes of the promise the Garden City Community College football team showed early in the season, the Busters rolled the No. 11-ranked Dodge City Conquistadors 41-22 on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City.
Tyreek Hill finally had room to showcase his breakaway speed, racking up 309 yards from scrimmage. He rushed for 200 yards and a two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and hauled in three passes for 109 yards and another score.
The Buster (5-3, 3-3) defense was equally exemplary, forcing five turnovers against the previously conference-leading Conqs, who now fall to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Sophomore linebacker D'vonta Derricott had two takeaways in the game, stripping Conqs' running back Tyries Thomas and running the other direction for the score. He also had an interception earlier in the game that he returned to the 1, which the Buster offense turned into a TD.
The Busters now travel to Coffeyville to try to end the season with two straight victories on the road.
