A pair of Garden City Community College football players were named KJCCC players of the week in week six for their efforts in the Busters' 33-14 win over Fort Scott.
Sophomore linebacker D'vonta Derricott racked up 13 tackles — 12 unassisted — and an interception as the Buster defense held the Greyhounds to 210 offensive yards. Derricott shared the honor with Hutchinson's freshman linebacker Darius Wright, who had six tackles — three for a loss — a sack and a forced fumble.
On special teams, sophomore Buster kicker/punter Tyler Peterson garnered honors after his perfect 4-for-4 effort on field goals and 3 for 3 on extra points. Peterson also had seven punts for 224 yards.
Derricott, the Kansas State commit, has totaled 35 tackles on the season despite missing one game due to suspension. He has three tackles for loss and two interceptions.
Peterson is 6 of 6 on the season in field goals and 22 of 23 on extra points. He's also averaging 34.8 yards per punt.
The duo were the second and third Buster players of the week to be named this season after freshman quarterback Akeem Jones was honored in week two.
