GCCC teams swept at Cloud Co.

The Garden City Community College women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season, 67-58, to Cloud County on the road Saturday.
No. 10 Garden City (18-2, 4-2 KJCCC) fell behind early, and was down 23-11 midway through the first half. The Lady Broncbusters struggled on offense, and found themselves down 37-23 at half.
Garden City just couldn't find a way to finish, much like in last Wednesday's win over Pratt.
"I think that was the story of the night," GCCC head coach Alaura Sharp said in a phone interview.
Cloud County (15-4, 5-0) shot 45 percent from the field, and Jordyn Alexander went to the free throw line 17 times, making 14, en route to a game-high 26 points.
Tamara Jones had 19 points for the Busters, and Deni Jacobs added 14, as the two scorers to reach double figures for Garden City. Jones and Jacobs both sat long stretches of the first half with foul trouble.
GCCC struggled from behind the arc, going 1-of-12 on 3-pointers, and shot 56 percent on free throws.
The Busters host Seward County (13-5, 4-1) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Perryman Athletic Complex.

The Garden City Community College men's basketball team dropped a 70-57 game to Cloud County on the road Saturday.
"Our team competed hard, especially being on the road," GCCC head coach Rand Chappell said in a phone interview. "I guess I was a little disappointed with our defense early in the game. They got out on the fast break a little bit, and we didn't get them shut down very good early on, and they kind of jumped out ahead of us."
The loss dropped GCCC back to the .500 mark for the season at 10-10, and 2-4 in Jayhawk West play. Cloud County improved to 12-7 and 3-2 in conference play.
The Thunderbirds led 39-32 at half, and pushed the lead out to 15 before the Broncbusters charged back later in the period.
With the score 51-47, Reuben King looked like he had a 3-point play on a drive to the basket and foul, but was instead called for a charge. He hit the floor hard, hurt his hip and hit his head, and was checked for a concussion. He stayed on the bench for the rest of the game.
Jade Cathey led the Busters again, with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. King had 14 on 6-of-13 shooting before coming out of the game.
"To win, we're gonna have to be more consistent on the offensive end and shoot the ball a little better," Chappell said.
Garden City hosts Seward County (13-6, 4-1) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Perryman Athletic Complex.
