Busters drop pair in Hutchinson

The Garden City Community College Broncbusters were swept in a doubleheader at Division II Hutchinson Thursday.

The two teams share the field again on Friday for another twin billing at 1 and 3 p.m.

Game 1

Third baseman Cale Dineen went 1 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs for the Busters, but the Blue Dragons came out on top, 5-4, in the extra-inning affair as Jacob Elk singled to score Jacob Schleppenbach in the bottom of the eighth for the walk-off win.

Starter JJ Benes was charged with the loss for the Busters after pitching 7-plus innings with six strikeouts. He allowed four earned and walked two.

Kyle Simonds was solid for the Blue Dragons, tossing the complete game, striking out 10 and allowing four earned.

Game 2

The Busters led through the first five innings of the nightcap as Jake Eikleberry tossed 5.1 innings for the Busters, allowing only three earned while striking out four.

However, in the sixth, the Blue Dragons pushed across three runs to take a 5-3 lead over the Busters, who could not answer in the seventh and final inning.

Catcher Jaxon Mohr was the leading hitter for the Busters, going 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Tyler Coufal picked up the win for the Blue Dragons with 1.2 innings in relief. Dakota Shadoan recorded the save with a scoreless seventh.
