Ex-Lady Buff Ford top KJCCC pitcher

Leslie Ford, former pitcher at Garden City High School, was named the Kansas Jayhawk Conference pitcher of the week recently.

Ford, a red-shirt freshman and right-handed hurdler who graduated at mid-semester in December of 2012 from GCHS, won three of her four games while pitching for Kansas City Community College.

Ford pitched 27 1/3 innings, striking out 27 and walking only two in her four games. In a 3-2 win over Coffeyville, she struck out 12. Her wins were against Coffeyville (3-2), Hesston (2-0) and Hutchinson (7-3) while her lone setback came against Hutchinson (2-0). She gave up just two earned runs in the 27 1/3 innings.

For the season, Ford is now 9-1 with an earned-run-average of 0.76. She has 76 strikeouts in 82 2/3 innings while walking just 18. She has given up only nine earned runs. She also is credited with one save in relief.

Ford was a three-time member of The Telegram's All-Area softball team in 2010-12.
