Garden City Arts workshops upcoming

Garden City Arts, 318 N. Main, is offering several creative programs this week for fees ranging from $3 to $6. Garden on the Gogh, 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, offers creative mentoring for individuals who are at-risk, disabled or experiencing adversity in life. The Never Ending Workshop for younger children offers a chance to explore a variety of mediums from 3 to 4 p.m. July 2. Painting is from 3 to 4 p.m. July 3 and Drawing is from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. Zoo to have longer hours on July 4

Hours at the Lee Richardson Zoo will be extended on Friday for the Municipal Band concert and fireworks. The Fourth Street vehicle entrance gate will close at 8 pm, with free vehicle admission from 6 to 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., the Fifth Street exit gate will open for latecomers to enter free of charge.

The Municipal Band concert will start at approximately 8 pm on the West Green, and the fireworks display begins at dark. No personal fireworks or pets are allowed in the zoo.

Museum closing for Independence Day

The Finney County Historical Museum, 403 S. Fourth, will be closed Friday for Independence Day.

Regular summer museum exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Summer tour hours at the adjacent William Fulton House are 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission to both facilities is free.

Veteran assistance schedule announced

Beginning today, the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs Office (KCVAO) will provide assistance to veterans and family members from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Finney County Public Library and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Finney County Admin Center, 311 N Ninth St. A veteran services representative will help navigate veteran resources and benefit, such as service-connected disability compensation, improved pension with aid and attendance, death pensions, VA health care, education and more. Ratatouille on Silver Screen Saturday

The animated comedy, Ratatouille, is the feature film for this week's Silver Screen Saturday Nights starting at dusk in Stevens Park in downtown Garden City.

Popcorn, drinks, and homemade goodies will be available for sale for $1 each and proceeds will benefit the Summer Youth Musical trip to the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta, Ga.

In the event of high wind or severe weather, the movie will be rescheduled. Call the Hotline at 276-1202 for cancellation details. Silver Screen Saturday Nights are presented by the Garden City Recreation Commission.
