Boys: South Gray moves on to SPIAA title; Scott City edges Liberal

South Gray 65, Ashland 57

Carson Skidmore scored 20 points to lead the South Gray Rebels to victory over the Ashland Blue Jays, 65-57, in the semifinals of the SPIAA Basketball Tournament in Dodge City.

The Rebels used hot-shooting from the 3-point and free-throw lines to sink the Bluejays, who beat the Rebels in total field goals scored but had three less 3-pointers and 15 less free throws made. At halftime, the Rebels were ahead of the Bluejays 40-28.

The Rebels move on to the championship game at 8:00 p.m. today, when they take on Spearville, who defeated top-seeded Fowler 49-46 in the other semifinal game. The Bluejays will play for third place against Fowler at 4:00 p.m.

In consolation play at the SPIAA Tournament, the Ingalls Bulldogs routed the Hodgeman Co. Longhorns, 60-38, with the help of Zach Batman, who had a team-high 14 points.

Scott City 52, Liberal 46

At Liberal, the Scott City Beavers defeated the Liberal Redskins, 52-46, behind the efforts of Trey O'Neil, who had a game-high 20 points.

The Beavers found themselves down at halftime by three, 25-22, but were able to get rolling offensively in the second half as they outscored the Redskin, 30-22.

The leading scorers for the Redskins were Blake Stout and Hayden Coker with 11 points each.

Moscow 65, Fellowship Baptist 52

At Moscow, the Wildcats won their matchup against the Fellowship Baptist Falcons, 65-52, with the help of Matt Pearson, who had a game-high 24 points.

The Wildcats had a comfortable lead at halftime, 28-21, and they kept rolling offensively in the game as they finished off the game with 22 points in the final period.

Stanton County 37, Syracuse 35

At Johnson, the Stanton Co. Trojans gained a narrow win over the Syracuse Bulldogs, 37-35, with the help of Kiefer Puyear, who had a game high 12 points.

The Trojans had a nice lead at halftime, 25-18, then they were down by one, 30-29, at the end of the third period, but were able to complete the comeback.

The leading scorer for the Bulldogs was Tierney DeWitt, who had 11 points.
