Betty West

SCOTT CITY — Elizabeth "Betty" J. West, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

She was born on April 4, 1922, in Healy, the daughter of Arthur Joseph and Margaret Murphy Kerkhoff. A lifetime resident of Scott City, she was an owner of West Plumbing in Scott City.

On Feb. 20, 1941, she married Jack H. West in Healy. He died on May 29, 1982, in Scott City.

She is survived by seven sons, Arthur J. West of Elsegundo, Calif., Jack H. West of San Diego, Calif., David L. West of Vancouver, Wash., Patrick T. West of Ocean City, Calif., Louis P. West of Garden City, Gene H. West of Garden City, and Terry J. West of Shallow Water; 11 daughters, Margaret J. Ellison of Sweden, Mary Francis of Ellis, Elizabeth J. Bradley of Wichita, Martha L. Jonagan of Ingalls, Dorotha A. Reynolds of Dodge City, Ruth J. West of Bakersfield, Calif., Kathryn L. Church of Kansas City, Mo., Rebecca S. Morton of Lawrence, Carolyn K. Hinojosa of Mercedes, Texas, Barbara S. Betzold of Hutchinson, and Virginia L. Leonard of Dodge City; 44 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mike H. West; one sister; and five brothers.

Visitation is from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.

Vigil services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Scott City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Scott City. Interment will be held at Scott County Cemetery in Scott City. Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
