Due to the winter snowstorm on Tuesday, the highly-anticipated "ArkRiver Rivalry" between Garden City and Holcomb girls and boys basketball teams has been postponed until Feb. 15.

The games were originally to have been played Tuesday at Holcomb High School, but the storm that dumped several inches of snow on southwest Kansas, along with plunging temperatures and wind, forced both schools to cancel classes, and the game.

Earlier on Tuesday, both Holcomb and Garden City officials had rescheduled the games to Thursday, but when school officials then cancelled classes late Tuesday for today, it was agreed to play the games at the later date.

Starting times, at least for now, remain the same as originally scheduled — the girls at 6:30 p.m. and the boys at 8.

Garden City's girls have swept Holcomb in the first two years, winning in overtime, 57-56, in 2011 at the Perryman Athletic Complex on the campus of Garden City Community College when it was part of the Clarion Inn Southwest Classic. Then, in a regular-season game a year ago, the Lady Buffs turned back the Lady Longhorns 67-54.

The boys teams have split the two games, with Garden winning in 2011 by a 41-28 margin, while Holcomb won a year ago 70-59 on the Buffs' home court.

The doubleheader will be live streamed by The Telegram and can be viewed online at www.gctelegram.com/live, starting at 6:30 p.m. with Andres Rivas handling the play-by-play duties.

GCHS wrestling duals

The Thursday Western Athletic Conference wrestling duals for GCHS against Hays and Great Bend at 4 and 6 p.m. at The Garden are still tentatively being held, according to GCHS athletic director Martin Segovia late Tuesday.

While the Buffs will wrestle both schools, Liberal also visits for duals with each of the two WAC foes.

More information on wrestling will be made available later today once school officials of all four schools can make a determination as to their status on Thursday.

Garden City Community College

Today's scheduled KJCCC games at the Perryman Athletic Complex against Hutchinson were postponed to Monday at the same times (women at 5:30 p.m., men at 7:30 p.m.).

The Broncusters will play Saturday's games at Colby as scheduled before hosting Hutchinson on Monday.

The college also announded the signing ceremony originally scheduled for today at 2 p.m. has been pushed back to Thursday at the same time. At least five players are expected to sign their letters of intent for their respective schools at that time.

Prep signings

A number of high school signings were still being planned for today, despite the inclement weather.

The NCAA and NJCAA has respective national signing dates beginning today for football as well as other sports.

Garden City High School is planning a 1 p.m. signing event at the school's main auditorium.
