Saturday, May 31

* Alltech MRHA Ranch Horse Competition

When: 2 p.m.

What: The Ranch Horse Competition showcases the cowboys' ability to handle their horses while exchanging ideas and techniques to train their horses. Entry information is available by contacting Dwight Bilyk at (918) 349-2325.

Where: Finney County Fairgrounds

* Ranch Rodeo

What: The Ranch Rodeo includes events in which traditional working cowboys gather to compete and demonstrate skills that are used every day in cattle ranch operations. Ranch Rodeo events typically use combinations of roping, horsemanship and groundwork skills to create a more genuine presentation of real-life ranch life.

When: 7 p.m.

Tuesday, June 3

* Merck Animal Health Live Show

What: Anyone with an interest in the cattle industry is invited to watch the top steers and heifers on display in the grandstand arena. Live Show judge Bob Kropp will do the final judging of the top steers and heifers.

When: 9 a.m.

Where: Finney County Fairgrounds

* Public Pick 5

What: The event is open to men, women and youth. Each person will pick five head of cattle during the Live Show that they believe will be the top placers in the Beef Empire Days index during the Carcass Show. Cost to enter is $20 per person the day of the show. Winners of the men's and women's divisions win $500. The youth division winner will receive a duffle bag.

Wednesday, June 4

* People's Choice Auction

What: The People's Choice Auction includes photographs of 50 steers that will be auctioned off. The prize will be paid on the performance of the cattle, which are being fed at Brookover Feedyard.

When: 8:30 p.m.

Where: Clarion Inn

Thursday, June 5

* Beef Empire Days Cattle Working Contest

What: The Cattle Working Contest provides an opportunity for feedyard crews from around southwest Kansas to learn the newest trends and test the latest equipment in the industry while also competing against each other. Entry forms are available by contacting the Beef Empire Days Office.

When: 11:30 a.m.

Where: Finney County Feedyard

Friday, June 6

* Carcass Show at Tyson Fresh Meats

What: The public is invited to view the carcasses. Judging the carcass is Terry Houser. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1998, he competed on both the meats judging and meat animal evaluation teams.

When: 2 p.m.

Where: Tyson Fresh Meats plant

Saturday, June 7

* Awards Banquet presented by Farm Credit of Southwest Kansas and Zoetis

What: The Live Show and Carcass Show awards are presented, as well as awards for the Cattle Working Contest, Feeders Cattle Challenge, People's Choice Auction, Public Pick 5, Ranch Rodeo and the Mary M. Hopkins award.

When: 5:30 p.m.

Where: Clarion Inn
