BBQ contest for Buff project

If you think you've got the best barbecue chicken, pork ribs or beef recipes around, or you're just a barbecue connoisseur, come on out Saturday to the Sky's the Limit BBQ contest.

The contest, which is the senior Buff project for Schuyler Hahn, will be held at the Clarion Inn, 1911 E. Kansas Ave. The entry fee is $50, and the contest is limited to the 15 entries. Each team must provide its own equipment

and meat, except the beef cut that will be provided.

Teams are invited to begin setting up equipment and start cooking on Friday night or Saturday morning in the grassy area north of the Clarion.

There will be more than $1,000 in cash and prizes. Proceeds from the event will benefit Meals on Wheels.

The contest will include categories for beef, chicken and pork ribs. The contest will follow basic KCBS rules except as noted. No garnish will be allowed. Turn in boxes will be provided with tin foil. Fires must be of wood, wood pellets or charcoal.

Meat inspections will be available Friday night and Saturday morning.

Turn-in times will be 12:30 p.m. for beef, 1 p.m. for chicken and 1:30 p.m. for ribs. An awards ceremony will begin at 2:15 p.m.

A limited amount of food samples and sandwiches will be available for purchase by the public.

There are a limited number of entries still available. Call Schuyler Hahn at 290-2153 or Robert Hahn at 271-8365 for more information or to register a team.
