South Gray boys get SPIAA win

SPIAA Quarterfinals at United Wireless Arena, Dodge City

South Gray 63, Hodgeman County 55

Despite struggling in the final period, the South Gray Rebels managed to hold off Hodgeman County, 63-55, on Tuesday in a SPIAA League Tournament quarterfinal game in Dodge City.

Trenton Holloway of South Gray had 23 points to lead all scorers, followed by Gaige Foskuhl with 10 points. Big first and third periods allowed South Gray to withstand a furious fourth-quarter charge by Hodgeman County. The Rebels also made nine 3-pointers in the game.

Austin Pfannenstiel led Hodgeman County with 13 points, as three more teammates had double figures, with Jared Borger scoring 12 points, and William Fierro and Brennan Harms each putting up 10.

South Gray moves to the SPIAA tournament semifinals where they will face Ashland at 6 p.m. on Friday in Dodge City.

Ingalls 57

The Fowler Goldbugs outscored Ingalls for the first three periods of the game to hold off the Bulldogs for a 68-57 win in another SPIAA quarterfinal game Tuesday.

Taylin Bird led Fowler with 14 points, followed by Joel Milford with 13, Ty Clark with 11 and Tate Shumard with 10.

Nathan Hale led Ingalls with 23 points, with LaMontae Heady chipping in with 10 points.

Ingalls will face Minneola in a consolation game at 3 p.m. on Friday at Dodge City.

Moscow 52

At Moscow, visiting Deerfield turned up its offensive effort in the second half against Moscow to pull away with a 68-52 win on Tuesday in Santa Fe Trail League action.

Anthony Mata led Deerfield with 21 points. Mike Mata and Alex Mata also put up double figures for the Spartans with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Rigo Bustillos led Moscow with 15 points, followed by Mathew Pearson with 10, as the Wildcats were outscored 44-31 in the second half.

At Lakin, the visiting Beavers outscored Lakin in every quarter to cruise to a 74-40 win on Tuesday.

Drew Kite led a balanced Scott City team with 18 points. Joey Meyer added 16 points, Anthony Wilson had 12 and Tyler Hess had 11. Wilson had all of his 12 points come from four 3-pointers.

Lakin also had a balanced scoring effort, as Daylon Gilleland led the Broncs with eight points.

At Tribune, an 11-7 third quarter allowed visiting Wichita County to go up by one point after that period and hold on for a 60-59 nail-biting win on Tuesday.

Jantz Budde led Wichita County with 19 points, and Neil Fletcher added 12 to lead the Indians. Bryce Nickelson also had 10 points for Wichita County, as a 24-24 fourth quarter deadlock allowed the Indians to get the one-point victory.

AJ Govert and Martin Veleta both led Greeley County with 20 and 18 points, respectively.

Alex Gomez led victorious Elkhart with 17 points, with Izzy Barco following up with 13 for the Wildcats.

James Turpin led Satanta with 13 points. Jesus Garcia also added 12 points, while Garrett Miller chipped in 11.
