A Liberal man was listed in critical condition Wednesday following an accident Tuesday morning in Haskell County.

Mario Ortega, 32, was critically injured in an accident at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of County Road 190 and XX Road, about five miles southwest of Copeland. Ortega was transported to Satanta District Hospital and later airlifted to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Elvis Wilson, 67, Montezuma, was driving a 1998 Ford F700 southbound on XX Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign. Ortega, who was driving eastbound on County Road 190 in a 2002 Chevrolet pickup, then hit Wilson on the left side of his vehicle. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts.

Wilson was taken to Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City, where he was treated and released.
