Richard Lotton, 80, of Garden City, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Fowler, to Harry Kent and Evelyn Virginia Phillips Lotton. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1951.
A longtime resident of Garden City, Mr. Lotton began working for Dillons while living in Hays. After 49 years, he retired from Dillons in 1995, having worked mostly in management. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Garden City and the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and he loved spending time with his dog "Bella." While attending Fort Hays State University, he was a collegiate All-American in track. He served in the U.S. Army.
On Aug. 25, 1957, he married Barbara Jean Hessman in Dodge City. She survives. Other survivors include three children, Pam Rehmert and her husband Darrell of Eufaula, Okla., Kelly Lotton and his wife Laurie of Houston, and Becky Lanier and her husband Jim of Phillipsburg; two sisters, Peggy Stoops of Springfield, Mo., and Debbie Fleitz of Wichita; and four grandchildren, A.J. Lanier and his wife Deanna of Valley Center, Taylor Lotton of Houston, Samantha Rehmert of Eufaula, and Morgan Wingerter of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Linda and Patty.
Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military rites conducted.
