A 6-year-old Dodge City girl was killed and five others were injured in a one-vehicle accident in Gray County on Saturday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Esella Vasquez, 6, Dodge City, died as a result of injuries she sustained from the accident, which occurred 14 miles west of Cimarron on Saturday afternoon.
Francisco Vasquez-Rivera, 42, Dodge City, was driving a 1999 GMC Safari, traveling west on U.S. Highway 50 when it blew a rear tire, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. Vasquez-Rivera then swerved to the south, crossing east-bound traffic and then rolled approximately one time, coming to rest on its wheels in a south ditch.
Esella Vasquez died from her injuries. Aracely Rivera, 6, and Emiliano Vasquez, 3, were flown to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita, where they were both listed in fair condition Sunday. Margarita Vasquez, 36, was in serious condition at St. Francis.
Dealila Vasquez, 17, and Francisco Vasquez-Rivera, were both taken to St Catherine Hospital, Garden City, where their conditions were unavailable. Only Dealila Vasquez and Francisco Vasquez-Rivera were wearing their seat belts, according to the KHP.

This makes me sick
That's the risk you take every time you get into a car and not make your children wear their seat belt. It makes me sick to see all these people driving around just letting their children jump all over the car. Maybe a much stiffer penalty needs to be put into place to make these parents actually take this issue seriously. Sure hope that the parents are held liable for her death. RIP baby girl. Sorry this had to happen.
