Parent meeting set for GCHS culinary and baking students
The Garden City High School Culinary and Baking program will hold informational meetings for students and their parents/guardians who are enrolled in the program. Two sessions of the meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
Two additional sessions will be held from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Aug. 27. The meetings will be held in the GCHS Culinary Arts Lab in the School of Arts and Communications, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.
The multiple sessions are scheduled to accommodate parent/guardian and student schedules. Attendance is necessary at only one of the four scheduled meetings.
The purpose of the meeting is to inform program participants about the industry-based curriculum requirements and course expectations, along with career opportunities in the hospitality field. This includes work experience, student competitions and travel, industry certification (ServSafe and ProStart), and postsecondary opportunities.
Karen Burden, GCHS culinary arts instructor, along with senior culinary students Marissa Garcia, Elsa Montanez and Jessica Ortiz will share their summer career exploration experience at Johnson and Wales University in Miami. Business and industry advisory members will also be available to answer questions about the hospitality industry.
