Cimarron man killed in small plane crash

A Cimarron man was killed Sunday afternoon in a small plane crash in Russell County.

Rufus Woods III, 65, Cimarron, reportedly died from injuries he sustained a single-engine plane crash that occurred at Mellard Road and 200th Street in Russell County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Woods was in a Van's RV-8 single-engine airplane. The crash occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.

According to the Gray County Sheriff's Office, Woods was a local dirt contractor in Cimarron.
