Robert Marion "Poky" Smith, of House Springs, Mo., died Thursday, May 29, 2014, following an extended illness.

Robert Marion "Poky" Smith, of House Springs, Mo., died Thursday, May 29, 2014, following an extended illness.

A former Garden City resident, he was born May 31, 1935, in western Kansas.

Mr. Smith had worked for the St. Louis County Water Company before being injured in an industrial accident in December 1970.

On Jan. 8, 1957, he married Melva Towns. She survives. Other survivors include four children, Blair and Kyle Smith, both of High Ridge, Mo., and Naron and Teri Smith, both of House Springs; two brothers, Richard Smith of Shallow Water, and Brett Smith of Garden City; a sister, Sue Reifscheider of Kansas; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Virginia Smith; and an infant daughter, LeAnn.

Services took place Monday in High Ridge.
