Gladys Mabel Williams, 97, a former Garden City resident, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in Jasper, Ga.

She was born Aug. 3, 1916, near Perth, N.D., to Serena Lenhart and Arthur Amos Starr.

A recent resident of Ellijay, Ga., Mrs. Williams was a retired restaurant cook.

On Sept. 18, 1937, she married Clinton Luray "Ray" Williams in Rolla, N.D. He preceded her in death as did a son, Luray Merle Williams; a daughter, Patricia Williams Witt; a stepgrandson; a stepgreat-grandson; five brothers, Lloyd, Floyd, Glen, Willard and Earl Starr; and a sister, Ardy Starr Gieb.

Survivors include three daughters, Serena Shockley of Chesterfield, Va., Kay Hairston of East Ellijay, Ga., and Shirley McLoughlin of Cimarron; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Bernhardt Funeral Home of Ellijay is in charge of arrangements.
