Pedro C. "Pete" Perez, 79, of Garden City, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Pedro C. "Pete" Perez, 79, of Garden City, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born July 24, 1934, in Humboldt, to Monico and Maria Borjas Perez.

Mr. Perez worked as a feed truck driver for Brookover Feed Yard for 42 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Garden City, a member of the Cursillo Movement, and was very involved in the pilgrimage in the procession for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe which is held on Dec. 12. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed participating and watching sports, telling jokes, carpentry work and spending time with his grandchildren.

On Aug. 28, 1953, he married Rose M. Herrera in Garden City. She died July 2, 2004. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tony and Benny Perez; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include three sons, Raul, Simon and Matt Perez, all of Garden City; four daughters, Mary L. Otero and Roberta Carreon, both of Garden City, and Elizabeth Hernandez and Marlyne Peck, both of Dodge City; a brother, Alfred Perez of Garden City; a sister, Ricarda Gonzales of Garden City; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

A vigil service and rosary will begin at 7 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Visitation hours are 1 to 5 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Condolences may be given at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
