HUGOTON — Shirley Joan Mills Popejoy, 80, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at her home in Spring, Texas, from respiratory failure.

HUGOTON — Shirley Joan Mills Popejoy, 80, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at her home in Spring, Texas, from respiratory failure.

She was born July 25, 1933, near Hugoton, to Daisy and O.W. Mills. She graduated from Hugoton High School in 1952.

On June 19, 1949, she married Bernard Popejoy.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Shari Popejoy Esposito of Spring; a son, Dan Popejoy of Georgetown, Texas; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janell Mills Burditt of Whispering Pines, N.C.; and a brother, Doug Mills of Hugoton. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Earl, Jerry and Don Mills.

Funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Hugoton. Burial will be at Hugoton Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by Garnand Funeral Home of Hugoton.
