MARIENTHAL — Edith Marie Berend, 81, died Monday, April 21, 2014, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

She was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Coronado, to August and Beata Kreutzer Luebbers. A lifetime resident of the Marienthal area, Mrs. Berend was a homemaker.

On Aug. 1, 1955, she married Harold Berend in Marienthal. He survives. Other survivors include seven children, Janet Pacheco of Garland, Texas, Deanna Fraley of Dighton, Linda Becker of Hays, Mike Berend of Leoti, Rita Bartel of Garden City, Carol Ruth of Johnson City, and Gina Perkins of McKinney, Texas; six brothers, Omer "Boots" Luebbers of Liberal, Gus and Pete Luebbers, both of Marienthal, Hans Luebbers of Hutchinson, Don Luebbers of De Ridder, La., and Jerry Luebbers of Rainier, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a son, Gordon Berend.

Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Marienthal.

Visitation hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti. Condolences may be sent at www.priceandsons.com. Memorials are suggested to the Wichita County Amusement Association or Marienthal Meadowlarks 4-H, both in care of the funeral home.
