County to consider new CVB ordinance

Finney County commissioners on Monday received a revised charter resolution that includes new language allowing bed tax funds to be used for economic development purposes. However, the county delayed approval of the document until May 6 to allow the Convention and Visitors Bureau more time to review the changes.
The CVB and the Finney County Economic Development Corp. have talked for more than six months about how some bed tax funds could be set aside to use when needed for an economic development project. The CVB put $45,000 in its 2013 budget for economic development, but the money can't be used until the charter resolution is amended.
The change allocates funds for convention and tourism purposes and "other investments that promote the general economic welfare of Finney County, including the attraction of industry, as permitted by law."
The revised charter also officially changes the name of the Finney County Convention and Tourism Bureau to Finney County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The CVB is scheduled to meet on April 18.
