James LeRoy Martin, 78, of Dripping Springs, Texas, died Saturday, March 15, 2014.

James LeRoy Martin, 78, of Dripping Springs, Texas, died Saturday, March 15, 2014.

He was born Oct. 10, 1935, in Pawnee County, to Harley and Clara Hahn Martin. He was raised on a farm and went to school at Consolidated Schools in Zook, where he was active in 4-H for 10 years. He played all sports, including football, in high school.

Mr. Martin worked at the Pawnee County Co-op in Larned before moving to Ulysses, where he was the Feed Division manager for 32 years. In 1996, he retired to Dripping Springs, where he joined First Baptist Church. After retirement, he worked for a car rental company for 10 years. He had a great love for yard work and gardening, generously sharing his bounty with friends and neighbors.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Dripping Springs; daughters, Diana Barb and husband Ed of Garden City, and Marcia Dixon and husband Don of Plainview, Texas; son, David Martin and wife Rita of Cheney; four granddaughters, Melissa Parker and husband Garrett, Alanna Fortune and husband Cash, Kallie Nichols and husband Jacob, and Alisha Martin; one grandson, Patrick Barb and wife Morgan; two great-grandsons, Chasen Fortune and Mason Martin; and a brother, Donald Martin and wife Ruth Ann. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Nathalene.

A celebration of his life will be held March 29 at First Baptist Church in Dripping Springs. A second celebration will be held at a later date in Pawnee County.

The family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
